VIDEO: 2 men beat 77-year-old in unprovoked downtown Seattle attack near Third and Pike

Surveillance video of a recent unprovoked attack on a 77-year-old man in downtown Seattle has been released, showing two men violently beating the elderly victim near Third Avenue and Pike Street.
Ahmed Osman, 29, was charged with second-degree assault in connection with the attack on the night of April 19, according to the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office (KCPAO).
However, Osman was released on bail two days later, according to the Redmond Police Department, citing the Seattle Police Department. He is currently wanted on a $200,000 warrant, and officers are actively searching for him.
The second suspect was arrested Monday in Redmond and was booked into the King County Jail.
Surveillance video captures violent downtown Seattle assault
The assault was captured on Real Time Crime Center (RTCC) surveillance camera footage, prosecutors said.
The victim had just gotten off a bus in downtown Seattle when two people attacked him, according to charging documents.
The video shows two men approach the victim, then violently force the 77-year-old man to the ground, striking him in the back of the head.
Osman then allegedly went to kick the 77-year-old man in the head as he lay defenseless on the ground, but pulled back.
Osman then “casually walked away” as the man remained bleeding on the ground, documents stated. He crossed the street and stayed there for several minutes before police arrived and arrested him.
“It’s shocking to think that somebody can be this cruel to another person,” KCPAO spokesperson Casey McNerthney said.
No bystanders stopped to help after the attack
In the video, the victim is seen struggling to get to his feet. In that footage, passersby do not stop to help him.
However, police body camera footage showed people pointing Osman out to responding officers, who found him outside a McDonald’s restaurant and cuffed him.
Osman denied any involvement in the attack.
“Did you hit somebody over there?” an officer asked him. “No, sir,” he replied.
“There’s about three people that pointed you out,” the officer told him.
Suspect claimed ties to Minnesota senator, Seattle mayor
Osman can also be heard on the body camera footage claiming to be the brother of a Minnesota senator.
He also made a reference to Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson.
“I work for the state,” he told officers. “You know Katie?” he asked. “The mayor. That’s all I’m gonna say, that’s my last one.”

77-year-old victim hospitalized at least a week with broken bones
The 77-year-old man suffered a broken arm, a broken knee, and a gash on his forehead, documents stated. He was in the hospital for at least a week after the attack.
“When you break a bone as a young person, it hurts, and it takes a long time to recover,” McNerthney said. “When you’re 77 — even in great shape — it’s a lot harder.”
Authorities said it appears the two men did not have any interaction before the assault.
