The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) Police is asking for public assistance to identify who is responsible for unlawfully shooting and wasting a cow elk in Grays Harbor County.

The cow elk was shot at the Bishop Athletic Center near Aberdeen and found by a citizen early in the morning on Saturday, WDFW announced.

The citizen found the cow elk covered in camouflaged netting in a soccer field. The elk appeared to have been shot in the spine and then stabbed with a knife.

WDFW noted that no meat was harvested from the animal.

The department is asking for anyone who has information on the incident to contact WDFW Enforcement at (877) 933-9847, online at wdfw.wa.gov, or text WDFWTIP to TIP411 (847411).

WDFW stated that anyone who provides information leading to an arrest may be eligible for a cash reward or bonus points for special permit hunting opportunities.
