A fatal hit-and-run collision involving a 56-year-old pedestrian in Ballard on Wednesday night is currently under investigation by the Seattle Police Department (SPD).

At approximately 10:15 p.m., patrol officers responded to a reported hit-and-run collision in the 7300 block of 15th Avenue Northwest, SPD announced.

At the scene, officers discovered a man lying in the roadway.

The suspected vehicle fled the area before police arrived, and was described as potentially being a silver sedan with front-end damage. SPD was not able to locate the vehicle.

“They didn’t stop and provide medical attention. They didn’t call 911. They committed a more serious offense, obviously, by fleeing the scene,” SPD Detective Eric Muñoz said. “If you happen to see a silver sedan with front-end damage, or even possibly blood on the front end or on the windshield, we want people to call 911.”

The Seattle Fire Department (SFD) responded to the scene and provided medical aid to the victim.

Despite all life-saving efforts, the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

SPD detectives determined that the 56-year-old man crossed the street in an undesignated crosswalk when the car traveling southbound on 15th Avenue Northwest fatally struck him.

Officers cordoned off the area, and detectives with the Traffic Collision Investigation Squad arrived to process the scene.

The King County Medical Examiner took custody of the victim.

If anyone has information, they are urged to call TCIS at (206) 684-8923.
