A 68-year-old man was arrested Sunday in Port Townsend on suspicion of killing a woman in a hit‑and‑run in Bellevue the day before, according to police.

The Bellevue Police Department (BPD) said the “elderly female” was struck and killed around 8 a.m. Saturday in a parking lot in the 14300 block of Bel‑Red Road. Investigators said they believed the suspect was driving a late‑1990s white Toyota Camry.

Police notified the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office on Saturday that the suspect might be in the Port Townsend area, but patrol units were initially unable to locate the vehicle.

Around 8 a.m. Sunday, a sheriff’s deputy found the suspected vehicle outside a home in the 800 block of McPherson Street. Deputies set up a perimeter, evacuated neighbors, and attempted for more than an hour to contact the man using a public address system, lights and sirens, officials said.

The man eventually exited the home around 9:30 a.m. and was taken into custody without incident, according to The Seattle Times.

He was transferred to BPD and booked into the King County Jail on investigation of homicide and felony hit‑and‑run.

BPD expressed condolences to the victim’s family and thanked the community for its support. The department also credited the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office for assisting in locating and arresting the suspect.
