Cal Anderson Park shooting leaves man injured, suspect in custody

Seattle police are investigating a late-night shooting at Cal Anderson Park that left a 49-year-old man wounded and a 29-year-old suspect behind bars.
Officers were called to the park at about 11:47 p.m. Monday for reports of a shooting, according to Seattle Police Department Detective Brian Pritchard. When they arrived, they found a 49-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his lower leg.
“Officers provided first aid until the Seattle Fire Department arrived,” Pritchard said. “The victim was then taken to Harborview Medical Center in stable condition.”
Police processed the scene and later received information identifying a possible suspect. Officers located a 29-year-old man near 10th Avenue and East Pine Street and arrested him without incident.
The suspect was booked into King County Jail for investigation of assault.
The department’s Gun Violence Reduction Unit responded to both the East Precinct and Harborview Medical Center to conduct interviews and will work to determine what led up to the shooting.
No additional details about a possible motive or any relationship between the suspect and victim have been released.
