A failed carjacking attempt in Capitol Hill Tuesday night left a victim with a stab wound to his leg after he threw his keys as far as he could to stop the theft.

At approximately 8:40 p.m., Seattle Police Department (SPD) officers responded to reports of a stabbing near the 2000 block of Broadway East, SPD stated.

After police arrived, they found a 44-year-old male victim suffering from a stab wound to his leg.

SPD administered medical aid until Seattle Fire Department medics arrived to take over care.

The American Medical Response team transported the victim to Harborview Medical Center in stable condition with a minor injury to his leg.

A police investigation uncovered that the man was sitting inside his parked car when two suspects approached the vehicle.

One suspect opened the door and stabbed the man during his attempt to steal the vehicle. The victim kept control of his vehicle, and both suspects fled eastbound on foot.

The victim’s keys wound up in a neighbor’s yard after he threw them far away. The keys were later returned to the victim.

Capitol Hill carjacking spree

Approximately 30 minutes earlier, a similar carjacking attempt occurred at 10th Avenue E. and E. Miller Street.

Two suspects attempted to open the locked door of an occupied vehicle. The suspects were unsuccessful at gaining access and fled the area shortly after.

The suspects in both instances were described as men wearing black masks. No other information about their appearance was provided.

SPD has yet to make an arrest in either case, and detectives with the homicide and assault unit are currently investigating each crime.

Anyone with information regarding each case is urged to call the SPD Violent Crimes Tip Line at (206) 233-5000.
