A suspect was arrested Thursday after he allegedly robbed a person at gunpoint during a Facebook Marketplace shoe sale in June, according to Casey McNerthney, a spokesperson for the King County Prosecutor’s Office.
King County prosecutors alleged the suspect, 23-year-old Said Mohamed Hussein, arranged to meet the seller to buy shoes, then showed a handgun and robbed the victim of the footwear.
The victim surrendered the shoes and was not physically injured, McNerthney said.
“One thing that people can do, and we’re certainly not blaming the victim here, but maybe you meet up at a police station or at a police precinct. That might be helpful,” McNerthney said. “You still never know exactly who you’re going to meet, so there’s always a little bit of a risk, whether using Facebook Marketplace, classified ads or Craigslist.”
Hussein is also suspected in a similar online sales robbery.
He has been charged with first-degree robbery and is expected to be arraigned soon.
His bail was set at $300,000.
