Officer-involved shooting follows 19-year-old’s mental health crisis call in Federal Way

An officer-involved shooting occurred in Federal Way on Wednesday after a 19-year-old resident, having a mental health crisis, called 911, stating they had a gun.
At approximately 4:53 p.m., Federal Way Police Department (FWPD) officers arrived at the residence and found the person, who was still armed with the gun, the Kent Police Department announced.

Officers initially used less lethal options to get the suspect to surrender, though the attempts were unsuccessful and led to an officer-involved shooting.
Officers performed lifesaving efforts, and the person was transported to a nearby hospital, where they are currently in critical condition.
FWPD noted that the Valley Independent Team was called in to investigate the matter, which remains ongoing.
