Hit-and-run driver sought after critically injuring Mariners fan returning from game

The Pierce County Sheriff’s Office (PSCO) is requesting the public’s assistance in identifying a hit-and-run driver who struck and seriously injured a Mariners fan after last Friday’s game.
At approximately 10:15 p.m. on Canyon Road, 32-year-old James Weinstein was returning home from the baseball game, dropped his glasses outside the car window, and exited the vehicle to retrieve them, PCSO announced.
While outside the vehicle, he was struck by a 1994-2000 model Chevy Silverado traveling southbound. The vehicle paused but did not stop and continued traveling southbound. As Weinstein lay in the roadway, another car hit him seconds later. The driver of the second vehicle remained on the scene and cooperated with deputies.
“The accident left James in critical condition with a broken clavicle, broken arm, cracked ribs, a broken femur, and a severed artery in his leg,” Weinstein’s sister, Natalie, stated on GoFundMe. “He nearly lost his life. Thanks to the quick actions of first responders, the surgeons and medical team at St. Joseph Medical Center, his life was saved. We are still hoping for another miracle and that his leg will be preserved as well.”

Weinstein’s family noted that the GoFundMe was created to ease both immediate and long-term financial strain so he can focus on recovery. His GoFundMe page has raised more than $20,000 of its $30,000 goal. Donations can be made here.
“James survived something no one should ever have to endure. We are so thankful he is still here,” The family wrote on GoFundMe. “Now we are asking for help to carry him through the long recovery ahead.”
On Tuesday, PCSO announced it collected vehicle parts from the scene that indicate a dark-colored pickup truck struck Weinstein. The damage to the pickup truck and the debris primarily came from the center grill of the truck.

Video evidence of the suspect truck traveling southbound on Canyon Road E. between 72nd Street E. and 116th Street E. at approximately 10:15 p.m. on April 10 can also be submitted to the PCSO evidence portal.
