An intoxicated 60-year-old man armed with a knife and gun was arrested Tuesday after he entered a Seattle high school, allegedly assaulted a security guard, and pointed a gun at a teen.

At approximately 12:50 p.m., Seattle Police Department (SPD) officers responded to reports of a man attempting to enter a school in the 1700 block of E. Union Street, SPD announced.

The man was walking his two dogs as he approached the school and reportedly forcefully pushed past the security guard in an attempt to talk with the principal.

After contacting the principal, he was told to leave the school property.

Intoxicated man allegedly assaults teens

Soon after, the suspect walked toward E. Pike Street near 16th Avenue and approached two teens inside a vehicle.

The man, allegedly holding a knife in one hand and a firearm in the other, began to yell at the teens, telling them they couldn’t park on the street.

The man then reportedly reached into the teen’s car and grabbed the 15-year-old by the neck while wielding the knife. SPD noted he also pointed a gun at the teen.

The teen told police he feared for his life and managed to free himself before telling the man he was going to call 911. The man then walked away with his dogs.

“Obviously, anybody that’s out of control and they have a firearm creates a potentially dangerous situation for anyone involved,” SPD Detective Eric Munoz said.

During the SPD investigation, officers tracked the man to his house nearby. After securing a search warrant, officers found two firearms inside his home.

Seattle Animal Control responded to the home and transported the dogs to a shelter.

Video evidence obtained by SPD revealed the man pushed his way into the school, and also led to a photo of him holding a knife in his hand.

“Part of the investigation will determine whether or not he was armed when he went inside the school, but we do know he left the school and shortly after and pointed a gun at that kid. So, yes, this was a very dangerous situation,” Munoz said.

The man was arrested for investigation of burglary and felony harassment, and later booked into the King County Jail.
