Mason County deputies capture armed suspect connected to double homicide

A man wanted in connection with a double homicide investigation is now in custody, according to the Mason County Sheriff’s Office.
Robert T. Child, 60, was considered armed and dangerous while Mason County deputies pursued him for nearly 24 hours. He was found at a gas station outside Shelton on Wednesday following a tip to investigators.
Child is accused of killing Anna Child, 46, and Jason Hilde, 46. The shooting stemmed from a domestic violence incident in Hoodsport. Anna and Robert Child were married, though they had recently separated, and worked together at the Fred Meyer in Shelton.
“It’s a huge relief, not only for the safety of our community but the safety of our officers and for the families,” Mason County Sheriff Ryan Spurling told KIRO 7.
Investigators are working to gather all the evidence in the case, with charges to follow shortly. According to the Mason County Sheriff’s Office, Child was their suspect from the start.
“Anna was such a joy and an amazing human, especially in this community,” Bryce Gardella, her brother, told KIRO 7. “She will be missed.”
According to KIRO 7, Robert Child recently entered the Fred Meyer and made a scene, prompting Anna to seek a restraining order. Robert allegedly left the state, and Anna never pursued a restraining order.
“That was my best friend,” Erica Christiansen told KIRO 7. “I can’t believe she’s gone.”
