Two men are recovering from non-life-threatening gunshot wounds after being dropped off at the Bonney Lake emergency room Sunday morning, according to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO).
PCSO Deputy Carly Cappetto said the incident was reported around 11 a.m. when hospital staff called 911, which is standard protocol when gunshot victims arrive.
“We actually had two individuals. They were dropped off at the Bonney Lake emergency room with gunshot wounds,” Cappetto said. “The hospital had contacted 911, so our deputies went out there to do the investigation.”
Pierce County shooting linked to large rural property
Investigators determined the men had been shot at an address in the 8000 block of 214th Ave. E. in the unincorporated Pierce County area of Bonney Lake.
The victims told deputies they were in an outbuilding on a multi-acre property when they were shot.
Deputies, along with Bonney Lake Police, conducted a safety sweep of the property, secured a search warrant, and then searched the grounds and multiple outbuildings. During the initial sweep, investigators found one shell casing in an outbuilding consistent with where the victims said the shooting occurred.
Detectives and forensics teams responded and spent significant time processing the large property.
Non-life-threatening injuries, few answers
Both men had a single gunshot wound and are expected to survive.
“The two victims each had a gunshot wound that was non-life-threatening,” Cappetto said. “It is unknown what happened on that property, what the altercation was, or who was involved.”
Cappetto said the property is already known to law enforcement, and the size and layout of the land, with numerous outbuildings, added complexity to the investigation and warrant process.
Limited cooperation, no suspect information
Detectives are still trying to determine what led up to the shooting and who is responsible. Investigators said they are getting limited cooperation from the victims.
“There wasn’t a lot of cooperation and a lot of unknown still at the time when the deputies had conducted the interview at the hospital,” Cappetto said. “It’s a pretty active investigation as we speak.”
As of now, investigators have not released any suspect details or a possible motive. The sheriff’s office said the investigation is ongoing.
