Deputies seek longer jail time for woman arrested 3 times in 1 week

A woman was arrested three times in the span of one week, the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) reported via Facebook.

By the third arrest, frustrated deputies reached out to the prosecutor’s office to see what could be done to keep the woman in jail longer.

Woman first arrested on November 12

The first arrest was on November 12. A witness reported a woman sitting in her car huffing a can of nitrous oxide, also known as whippets.

Deputies arrived and saw the 46-year-old woman tossing cans of whippets in the back seat. She was also naked from the waist down.

The woman agreed to a field sobriety test and failed all categories. She was arrested for physical control and booked into the Pierce County Jail.

Woman booked a second time into Pierce County Jail

On November 15, the same woman was arrested for DUI by the Fircrest Police Department after she reportedly crashed into a power box and took out a pole at 44th Street West and Alameda Avenue.

Her car was totaled, and whippet cans were found inside. She was booked again into the Pierce County Jail, this time for DUI and malicious mischief in the first degree.

Deputy arrests same woman only days later

On November 20, another witness reported a woman slumped over in her car with nitrous oxide cans everywhere. Deputies arrived and stopped her before she left the parking lot.

The same deputy who arrested the woman days prior arrested her again.

Law enforcement asks for longer jail time for woman

Deputies were becoming frustrated and concerned for the community, so a phone call was made to the prosecutor’s office, PCSO stated. Each time, the woman had bailed out of the arrest and was back on the road within 24 hours.

The Pierce County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office explained in an email to MyNorthwest that the sheriff’s office had reached out to the University Place prosecutor in hopes she could seek a bench warrant from the court, based on the two cases in University Place.

To deputies’ dismay, PCSO was notified of a fourth incident involving the same woman in Tacoma.

She had totaled her car again after allegedly hitting a parked car in a neighborhood, pushing it into another vehicle.

Woman arrested a 4th time after DUI warrants issued

But on November 24, the court issued two $50,000 DUI warrants for the woman’s arrest, as she was considered a high-risk danger to the community.

The morning of November 26, the woman was arrested at her home.

“The moral of this story: inhalants are extremely addictive and dangerous,” PCSO wrote in its post. “Please reach out for help if you or a loved one is suffering from an addiction.”
