A 39-year-old man was arrested for stabbing another man after he refused to provide the suspect with drugs in Pioneer Square on Wednesday.

At approximately 2:00 p.m., a 34-year-old victim alerted Seattle Police Department (SPD) officers in the 500 block of 3rd Ave., reporting to them that he was stabbed, SPD announced.

The victim relayed to officers that the suspect approached him, asking for drugs. The victim told the man that he didn’t have any drugs, which prompted the suspect to stab him.

Stabbing suspect flees after the crime

Following the stabbing, the suspect fled the scene down 3rd Avenue.

The Seattle Fire Department (SFD) arrived to treat the victim for a stab wound to his upper leg.

An ambulance responded to the scene and transported the victim to the Harborview Medical Center (HMC) in stable condition.

During the SPD investigation, the suspect returned to the crime scene and ran past officers. The suspect was arrested without incident shortly after his return.

The suspect told officers multiple times that “he did not stab anyone,” according to the police report. SPD recovered two knives as evidence.

SPD transported the suspect to the King County Jail (KCJ), where he was medically declined for a pre-existing injury. The suspect was then transferred to HMC for evaluation.

After his evaluation, the suspect was discharged and booked into KCJ for felony assault.

Homicide and Assault Unit detectives have been assigned to the case.
