South Seattle drive-by shooting turns deadly as 19-year-old victim dies 1 week later

A 19-year-old man died roughly one week after a drive-by shooting in South Seattle left him with a gunshot wound to the head on May 8.
At 11:40 p.m. on May 8, Seattle Police Department (SPD) officers responded to a shooting near 32nd Avenue and S. Chicago Street, SPD announced.
As officers arrived, they found a man suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound to the head. SPD and the Seattle Fire Department administered medical attention before the victim was transported to Harborview Medical Center in critical condition.

Detectives determined that the shooting occurred near Martin Luther King Jr. Way S. and S. Henderson Street.
The suspect or suspects began shooting at the victim’s vehicle, striking it several times and injuring the victim. The suspect or suspects fled the scene in a car before officers arrived, and no arrests were made.
Officers cordoned off the crime scene and located dozens of shell casings nearby. SPD impounded two involved vehicles to the processing room.
More than one week later, the victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead on May 16. Homicide Unit detectives have taken over the investigation.
