Homicide suspect arrested after 35-year-old found dead in South Seattle encampment

A 46-year-old man was arrested Monday in connection with a homicide last week inside a South Seattle homeless encampment.
On May 7, at approximately 9 a.m., Seattle Police Department (SPD) officers responded to reports of a body inside a tent near Cheasty Boulevard S. and S. Winthrop Street.

Officers cordoned off the area until investigators arrived and processed the scene. The King County Medical Examiner took custody of the body, and its office will determine the cause and manner of death.
SPD investigated the death of the 35-year-old man found with a penetrating injury, and SPD Homicide Unit detectives found probable cause to arrest the suspect.
In a joint effort, SPD detectives, SWAT, and the Gun Violence Reduction Unit took the suspect into custody on Monday. The suspect was booked into King County Jail for investigation of murder.
