A 28-year-old man engaged in a lengthy standoff with the Seattle police SWAT team on Tuesday, leading to the suspect biting, kicking, and spitting on officers after he was arrested in Queen Anne.

At approximately 4:30 p.m., Seattle Police Department (SPD) officers responded to a threat in the 2200 block of 15th Avenue W., SPD announced.

As officers arrived, they discovered that a resident, who was armed with a knife, had made threats to kill another resident.

Suspect emerges in body armor, flees back into apartment

Nearly two hours later, at 6:15 p.m., the suspect exited his apartment wearing body armor and a Kevlar helmet.

Officers attempted to take the suspect into custody after he exited his apartment, but the suspect fled toward a nearby stairwell and began stabbing the door with a knife.

The suspect later retreated back into his apartment and barricaded himself inside.

Soon after, the SPD SWAT team and police negotiators arrived on scene to persuade the suspect to surrender.

Officers applied for a search warrant on the suspect’s apartment, and at approximately 8:25 p.m., SWAT arrested the suspect without incident.

Police seized multiple knives, body armor, and a Kevlar helmet as evidence.

While the suspect was in custody, he bit, kicked, and spat on SPD officers.

Officers booked the suspect into the King County Jail for several felonies and a $2,500 warrant for assault.

Homicide and Assault Unit detectives have been assigned to the case.
