‘Are you counting Friday?’ Gee questions how honest work-from-home employees are

Dec 2, 2025, 3:21 PM | Updated: 3:46 pm

The debate over the effectiveness of working from home continues.

On “The Gee and Ursula Show” on KIRO Newsradio, co-host Gee Scott questioned whether remote workers are as honest about their hours as employers believe.

“When you leave on a Friday, are you counting that as a work day if you’re working from home Fridays and Mondays? Gee asked. “If you take off on Friday, are you taking a vacation day, or are you just saying I’m going to keep working as I make my way to the airport?”

Some remote employees say they make up the hours throughout the week. Others admit they work from the plane, from the gate, or from a beachside Airbnb. Most quietly treat Fridays and Mondays as flexible buffers, assuming nobody will notice as long as the work gets done.

But some CEOs, like Instagram’s Adam Mosseri, believe employees simply work better and more efficiently surrounded by other employees in a workspace.

“We’re just better as a company when everybody’s in,” co-host Ursula Reutin said, reading Mosseri’s statement. “So he’s changing it, just like Amazon has done, just like some other tech giants have done, kind of more quietly or not so quietly. I honestly think we’re just gonna see a lot more of that come in 2026.”
