Former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick held a private workout at the University of Washington this week, and afterwards, indicated that he’s had conversations with Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll and general manager John Schneider. But is Kaepernick a good fit for a Seahawks team that appears to be entering the beginning stages of a rebuild?

Prior to this week, Seahawks wide receiver Tyler Lockett had also run routes with Kaepernick, with Wednesday’s workout at the UW only adding more fuel to rumors that Seattle might consider taking a chance on the former star quarterback.

For KIRO Newsradio’s Gee Scott, it’s less a question about whether Kaepernick deserves a place on an NFL roster, and more about whether he is the right quarterback for the Seahawks right now.

Gee & Ursula: Rumors swirl as Kaepernick runs routes with Seahawks WR

“My goodness, put the Colin Kaepernick stuff to bed,” Gee opined. “Maybe it should happen in the NFL, but it should not happen with the Seattle Seahawks. And let’s be real — the majority of this stuff right now is performative, right?”

“Yes, he was blackballed from the league, and yes, it was wrong, OK? I’m able to clarify that first,” he added. “But do I think Colin Kaepernick six years removed from the game will be a quarterback that would really help the Seattle Seahawks? No, I don’t.”

Gee says there are other options for the Seahawks besides Kaepernick that he also thinks wouldn’t work out well, citing how some have floated the idea of adding former Washington State University quarterback Gardner Minshew.

“Some of you get mad at me about the Gardner Minshew conversation,” he noted. “He’s a nice guy. He’s very charismatic. I love his mustache. Do I think that he’s going to be the quarterback that’s going to help the Seahawks get to the promised land? No. So no to him, and no to Colin Kaepernick.”
