‘Brutally honest’ Kent candidate gets demolished

When you tell voters you don’t really want the job in your own voter’s guide statement, it turns out you get your everloving butt kicked.

Russell L. Hanscom got our attention with his brutally honest statement where he said, in part:

Frankly, I’m not really sure I want this job. The pay is crummy, it takes time away from my family, and it’s pretty thankless a lot of the time.

But good news. He insisted that he might do the job, so long as he doesn’t have anything better to do:

I’m writing this statement on August 4 and I’m right in the middle of starting a business. If the business takes off like it’s supposed to between now and November, I sincerely doubt I’ll have enough time to be an effective representative of your concerns.

I honestly don’t know what else to say. This is the reality I’m facing today.

So how did he end up doing? Oy. It’s not looking good. With just around 27 percent of the vote, Hanscom cruised to a bruising loss to the incumbent, Brenda Fincher.
