McMorris Rodgers: Democrats tell conservative women they don’t count

Cathy McMorris Rodgers defeated Democrat Dave Wilson in Washington’s 5th Congressional District race, and will serve her ninth term.

She joined the Jason Rantz Show on KTTH to discuss the win and why she believes local Democrats condescend to conservative women.

“I’m honored, humbled, and excited to be able to continue to represent the great people of Eastern Washington in Congress … It really causes me to reflect on the battle that I had in 2018. But I believe that that battle, when they were targeting me, really laid the foundation for 2020, and the fight continues,” she said.

“The fight continues for this country, and it’s being fought in every congressional district, every legislative seat. It is really becoming more of a stark contrast between those who believe in America, and freedom, and free markets and what that has meant for everyone no matter who you are, no matter where you come from, and those that are promoting a very different future for America, and that is one around socialism … to dismantle this greatest experiment in self governance that the world has ever known.”

As Jason suggested, the election in general was not the blue wave that some predicted, especially with Republican women making large gains in the House.

“When you look at these races across the country, there was a lot of support for Republicans, and absolutely no one had predicted that we would see that the House of Representatives as close as it is right now,” McMorris Rodgers said.

She argues that there’s been an inaccurate narrative surrounding Democrats and women, seemingly negating the existence of conservative women.

“The Democrat party, especially in recent years, has been telling women in America that if you are a woman, you are a Democrat, and that basically conservative women don’t count. I faced this in Eastern Washington, that because I’m a pro-life Republican woman that I don’t count, that I’m not representing women. And so to have this number of women that got into the arena, that went ahead and announced and decided, ‘You know what? I’m going to run for Congress,’” she said. “So it really is exciting that we’re going to break the record and that we’re going to have a record number of women — Republican women — serving in the House of Representatives.”
