Democrat state Representative Clyde Shavers (D-Oak Harbor) has a new, and early, challenger in Washington’s 10th legislative district.
Stanwood City Councilmember Robert “Chili” Hicks announced his candidacy, and unlike Shavers, he doesn’t need to mislead about his military service. Hicks retired from the United States Navy as a Master Chief Petty Officer.
“If you’re going to lie, and your family is going to come back and say, ‘hey, that guy’s not telling the truth.’ That’s a message, right? That’s a serious integrity problem,” Hicks told “The Jason Rantz Show” on KTTH.
Why Robert Hicks is challenging Clyde Shavers
The impetus for Hicks to run is because Washington is becoming increasingly unlivable. Hicks puts an emphasis on the issues of affordability, education and public safety.
“We’ve got to restore some fiscal responsibility, some common sense. You can’t spend more than you make,” Hicks said.
“Parents need to know what’s going on with their kids when they’re in the custody of the school system. And obviously, public safety will never go away, but I don’t think there’s enough district attorneys, or judges, or enough room in the jails to prosecute these offenses,” he added.
