Dow Constantine’s disgusting double standard

King County Executive Dow Constantine appears outraged by a broadcasting company’s appeal to workers that they voluntarily donate to their politician action committee. How odd, considering Constantine supports forcing taxpayers to fund political speech that they disagree with.

Sinclair Broadcasting recently sent a letter out to employees informing them they’re eligible to donate to their PAC. It’s not mandatory. If you choose not to donate, then you choose not to donate.

Constantine was sickened by the company’s appeal, tweeting out that it is “unacceptable.”

This is a bizarre position for Dow Constantine to take. He endorsed the Democracy Vouchers program that forces Seattle taxpayers to fund political speech they disagree with. I am compelled to fund fringe candidates with my tax dollars. I have no way around it. Unlike Sinclair asking for the donations, I have no choice. It’s not voluntary.

The truth is, Constantine doesn’t find it unacceptable that a company might ask for contributions. Constantine finds it unacceptable that a conservative company is asking for funds that would go to conservative causes.

Constantine, who does his level best to avoid interviews with anyone in the media who might challenge him, is only alarmed that money might voluntarily go to causes he personally disagrees with. Because he does his best to ignore his conservative constituents, he got especially annoyed that some King County Republicans might be able to get a voice and some influence. He can’t — and won’t — debate them, so he needs to silence them.
