Many Washingtonians have become disenchanted with Bob Ferguson’s decision to sign $9 billion in new taxes into law. The law sparked substantial public dissent, which led to a new petition seeking to recall Ferguson.

Shannon Soderlund, a gas station worker in Grays Harbor County, cited the rising cost of living as the impetus for starting the petition.

“It was the increase on the property taxes because they want to triple it from 1% to 3%,” Soderlund told “The Jason Rantz Show” on KTTH, “I would have to pay more for property taxes. Also, everyone I know would, as well as senior citizens. That would hit them hard, too. So very bad for everyone in Washington.”

Despite Ferguson’s posturing as a moderate, Soderlund never got her hopes up that Ferguson would veto the new taxes.

Ferguson delivers on bleak expectations

“I kind of expected that from him, but I didn’t think that he would increase this much. This is just more than I expected,” Soderlund said.

Soderlund added that taxes aren’t the only reason people are signing her petition, which has already received over 35,000 signatures.

“There are other things too. He took the rights away from the parents to have any say about their kids,” Soderlund said.
