How will Chris Vance attempt to take down Sen. Patty Murray?

The Democrat that Chris Vance is running against has a pretty solid hold in the U.S. Senate.

Vance, a former state representative, King County Council member, and former chairman of the state GOP, will have his work cut out for him as he tries to wrestle votes away from Sen. Patty Murray.

Murray, in her fourth term, has a lot of sway with lawmakers, KIRO Radio’s Jason Rantz pointed out. Why would Washington voters want to dismiss her and all that experience?

Because Murray isn’t finding solutions to major issues, such as the economy and debt, Vance responded.

“Debt is one of the biggest problems stopping economic growth,” he added. Murray failed to negotiate a bipartisan debt agreement, instead passing a budget with “only democratic votes,” which raised taxes, but didn’t lower debt.

But does he really think he has a shot at Murray?

“There’s no politician that can’t be beaten,” Vance said. “What I’m going to do is look Washingtonians in the eyes and tell them what needs to be done.

“After 24 years in the Senate, Patty Murray is part of the problem,” he continued. “I think people want change.”

Vance’s priorities include immigration reform and debt reduction. Enacting a deficit-reduction plan similar to the Simpson-Bowles commission would top the list, he told Rantz.

Vance supports bipartisan efforts.

“It has to come from both sides,” he explained. “Republicans and Democrats can’t do this alone. We need to find solutions via both sides.”

Though he believes it’s time for Murray to be replaced, Vance does respect some things she’s accomplished. For example, Murray helped pave the way for a new trade agreement with the Pacific nations. Free trade, Vance pointed out, is critical for Washington.
