Stanwood bank robber sues for millions after getting caught

Being a bank robber might very well end up be a lucrative profession, even after getting caught and convicted. At least, that’s what Todd Kirkpatrick is hoping. He’s suing Snohomish County for $6.3 million dollars after a sheriff’s deputy caught Kirkpatrick mid-robbery, shooting him twice.

According to the Everett Herald:

[Kirkpatrick] wrote that his medical bills from the gunshot wounds amounted to more than $300,000, and that other police officers failed to stop Deputy Dan Scott “from trying to execute me.”

The deputy chased Kirkpatrick from the scene of a KeyBank robbery in Stanwood and, at one point, when confronted by the deputy, the bank robber pulled a weapon. The deputy, obviously, felt the need to protect himself, firing twice at Kirkpatrick.

It turns out the bank robber’s gun wasn’t loaded. Now, he’s arguing that “I was obviously unarmed and severely shot up.”

Well, isn’t that cute.

The chances of Kirkpatrick winning are pretty slim, but silly lawsuits sometimes have a way of costing a lot to defend. Sometimes, lawsuits are settled because it’s a cheaper option than going through the court system, even if you’re near certain to come out on top. Hopefully, this is something that can be defeated quickly and cheaply.
