Love Trumps hate, but not lazy Hitler comparisons

Maybe I woke up in a bad mood and need to stop checking Twitter when I wake up, but one of the first tweets I saw this morning was from anchor/reporter Lisa Brooks. She responded to a MyNorthwest tweet featuring an image of President-elect Donald Trump dining with Mitt Romney and Reince Priebus. In the photo, Trump is clearly waving, but Brooks asked if Trump is saying ‘Heil Hitler’?

Can we just stop it with the lazy, insensitive, uninspired, stupid Hitler and Nazi comparisons? Please? Donald Trump is not Adolf Hitler. George W. Bush is not Hitler; Barack Obama nor Hillary Clinton are Hitler. Hitler is Hitler. He’s the one behind the systematic murder of millions of innocent people. Your hyperbolic comparisons make you seem absolutely unhinged and incapable of any reasonable discussion.

Brooks has since walked her tweet back claiming she was somehow calling out the photo choice in the piece. Fine, I guess? But she’s the one who saw a wave and equated it with a Nazi salute. I saw the photo and as a Jew, Hitler didn’t come to mind. At all. Not even for a second.

I get that you’re upset Trump won. I get that some of you are terrified. But is it wise to demean the deaths of millions so you can make some hackneyed political statement? Do you somehow feel empowered by pretending a wave is a ‘Heil Hitler’ salute? How sad if you do.

The HRC crowd adopted the phrase “Love Trumps Hate” because of the nasty rhetoric coming from Trump. So why devolve into hateful rhetoric yourself? Does love not Trump imbecilic comparisons?
