‘I believe in following the truth’: Former Canadian School Board Administrator faces $750k fine for saying 5 words

Former Canadian School Board Administrator Barry Neufeld is facing a $750,000 fine for saying five words against an ideology he doesn’t believe in.

Neufeld told “The John Curley Show” he isn’t afraid to stand up for what is right, and will continue to defend his statement that “transitioning children is child abuse.”

“Also, this is the one that really got them upset: there are only two genders, male and female,” Neufeld said. “That’s the one that really got them irritated.”

The B.C. Human Rights Tribunal has labeled Neufeld’s statements as hate speech.

“They call it existential denialism,” Neufeld explained. “You have to believe that a person can be born in the wrong body, and that’s a belief that I refuse to accept.”

Neufeld has been going back and forth with the tribunal for eight years and has faced more than 20 judges, but continues to fight back. He said the teachers tried to make a deal with him, requesting that he make a public apology, take a training course to understand what being transgender means, never run for public office in Canada again, and donate $50,000 to an LGBTQ charity that would be covered by insurance.

“I said, ‘Well, I’ll think about it.’ I thought about it. Talked to a couple of friends, talked to my pastor, and he said, ‘Well, who are you apologizing to?’ I said, ‘I don’t know. They won’t give me any names.’ He said, ‘Well, without any names, there’s nothing to apologize for,'” Neufeld said.

“And I said, ‘I spent the last six years studying this. I spent more time and effort on this than my master’s degree, and that no training course is going to convince me that this is a good thing for children,'” he continued. “And I said, ‘They’re school teachers, they don’t have a right to tell me I can’t run for public office, and even though the $50,000 isn’t mine, I don’t want it to go to an organization that’s going to persuade kids to damage their bodies.’ So he said, ‘Well, what do you want to do with this offer to settle? I said, ‘Forgive me, Father, but I want to tell him that, shove it where the sun don’t shine.'”

When asked why he didn’t just let the situation go, Neufeld said he won’t stop until the ideology is out of the education system. He added that he’s no longer afraid of the threats.

“At my ripe old age of 78, their threats don’t really scare me anymore,” Neufeld said. “I believe in following the truth and doing the right thing, and I’m sorry if some of my remarks have offended people who have invested a lot of their lives in transitioning to a different gender. I hope it goes well for them, but I’ve met too many people who have detransitioned, and they’ve explained to me and told me how it ruined a big chunk of their lives trying to live it as the opposite sex.”
