I-405 toll driver cheating the system should consider ‘James Bond approach’

An I-405 driver is sticking it to the Washington State Department of Transportation and giving one Lacey man a headache.
The Good to Go license plate readers have been inaccurately reading the license plate of a car using the express toll lanes, causing the bill to go to Andy Stoeckle, KING 5 reports. The reason for the confusion is due to the offending driver covering up a portion of the vehicle’s license plate while using the toll lanes.
It’s frustrating for Stoeckle because he’s never used the toll lanes. And the license plate linked to the bill hasn’t been used in about nine years, KING 5 reports.

Why would WSDOT send a bill to someone with canceled plates? KING 5 reports that WSDOT has no way of knowing if a driver is using plates illegally.
WSDOT and the Department of Licensing will meet to try and improve how they share plate information, according to KING 5.
But if the driver in the toll lanes just took it a step further this might not be an issue, at least for Stoeckle. KIRO Radio’s John Curley says he knows all about it.
John Curley: I had a 1969 Volkswagon bug. What I did was ran a wire from the front where the emergency brake was, to the back license plate. Sweet. If I wanted to block the license plate, I would just pull the wire and the plate would flap up and flap back down.
Curley wouldn’t say what event in his life caused him to take such a James Bond-type measure in his driving habits.
