‘Nasty’ Seattle defense spells trouble for Kaepernick-less 49ers

It’s going to be interesting to see how well, or not so well, the 49ers do against the Seattle Seahawks without skittish quarterback Colin Kaepernick.

It can’t be much worse than the team has done the last two seasons.

Rich Walcoff, the host of the 49ers pre- and post-game show on KGO says he doesn’t have much confidence in the team.

“I’m not feeling good man,” Walcoff told KIRO Radio’s Tom and Curley.

The 49ers will start Blaine Gabbert, after having benched Kaepernick. Its a welcome change after the team has had just a few good games against bad teams. Walcoff says any time Kaepernick plays against a defense worth its salt he gets buried, kind of like a skittish cat, deer in the headlights; you choose the animal metaphor.

“It’s long overdue,” Walcoff said of benching Kaepernick.

So what is Kaepernick doing now? John Curley asked. Just putting on his Beats headphones and walking out the door?

Like Russell Wilson, Kaepernick has struggled even more since signing a big contract, Tom Tangney pointed out. Does he have a girlfriend distracting him as well? has he become complacent?

Their problems aren’t the same, Walcoff said. First of all, Kaepernick’s contract can be pulled by April 1, because it’s club-friendly. Second, Wilson’s problems seem to be more up front, with an offensive line that almost makes the 49ers line look respectable (ouch).

What will Sunday look like?

Well, the Seahawks defense is “nasty” and the 49er offense is “not good,” Walcoff says. Gabbert will be running for his life; unlike Kaepernick, however, he will actually step into the pocket like a quarterback should.

Walcoff predicts the score will be Seahawks 27, 49ers 17.
