‘Don’t look sloppy’: Jake, Spike respond to backlash over airport banning pajamas

Mar 1, 2026, 3:10 AM

Tampa International Airport has already successfully banned Crocs for travelers coming through its airport, but now its sights are set on banning pajamas for passengers.

Jake Skorheim and Spike O’Neill, co-hosts of “The Jake and Spike Show” on KIRO Newsradio, both praised the airport’s decision to crack down on the dress code, noting that those at fault lack self-awareness and disrespect those around them.

“I love authority with backbone and spine. First off, the social media backlash from travelers was an avalanche, a flood of ‘don’t tell me what to wear. You guys treat us like cattle, smaller seats, fewer amenities, no blankets,'” Spike said. “I mean, the list of grievances against airlines was overwhelming. They’re not wrong. I myself travel, believe it or not, and I understand comfort. There are comfortable clothes that don’t look insulting and aren’t impactful to everybody around you.”

“There are things that you can make the choice to wear that don’t look sloppy,” Jake responded.

Spike raised the bar even higher, now calling out accessories that passengers bring on flights that can be unsanitary and breach other travelers’ boundaries.

“You look slovenly, like you couldn’t care less. You rolled out of bed and got in the car to go to the airport,” Spike said. “Also, bringing your own pillow, don’t do that. If you’re going to, could you put a fresh pillowcase on at least? Is it asking too much to not have the drool marks of your many nights of slumber, sweaty tossing, leaning through the crack between your seat and into my row behind you?

“I think the backlash against airlines’ treatment of passengers is deserved. I mean, I get it. People have less self-awareness, maybe not just self-respect,” Spike continued. “It’s also a disregard for how your actions impact those around you. You can be mad at the airline all day long. Sally in Seat 25D has done nothing to you, yet she is now subjected to your decision to travel in comfort clothes. Or taking your shoes off, and putting your feet up on the seat in front of you, or even in the aisle.”
