‘He’s getting let off the hook’: Gee slams insanity verdict in Belltown shooting that killed pregnant woman

Mar 23, 2026, 5:10 PM | Updated: 5:12 pm

KIRO host Gee Scott criticized the court’s decision to find the man accused of shooting and killing a pregnant woman in Belltown in 2023 not guilty by reason of insanity.

Gee believes Cordell Goosby should have been sentenced to prison instead of being sent to a psychiatric facility like Western State Hospital.

“There really is a vibe that’s starting to happen where we are seeing awful people, it feels like, just get let off the hook, constantly. And I think this is an example of someone being let off the hook,” he said on “The Gee and Ursula Show” on KIRO Newsradio.

Gee said the money being used to keep him at the hospital could have been used for something better.

“It’ll be more money spent on him than someone else trying to do the right thing,” he said.

Eina Kwon was killed in Belltown shooting while 8 months pregnant in 2023

Eina Kwon, 34, and her unborn child were killed after bullets punctured her car in June 2023. She was eight months pregnant. Her daughter died during an emergency delivery at Harborview Medical Center. Her husband, 37-year-old Sung Kwon, was also injured but survived.

Gee said the ruling has to be a blow for the family, adding that his heart goes out to Sung Kwon. Gee called Goosby “a sicko” and acknowledged mental health challenges are difficult to navigate, but said this is where he draws the line.

“When your mental health challenges impact others, hurt others, harm others, I’m sorry, you need more than some type of mental health rehabilitation. You need jail. You need prison,” he said. “And this is the type of person. I’m sorry, he had his chance at 30-something years old. He had his opportunity to be amongst us in society. But I think that should be over forever.”

Goosby should be put away for life, Gee said, adding that there shouldn’t be any opportunity for him to be released.

“So if, at 60-something years old, he starts to do things the right way, and he looks and seems as if he has been rehabilitated, he should never walk out of any type of lockup. He should never come out here into society,” he said.
