Curley: When 20% of young Americans think the Holocaust is a myth, Billie Eilish’s ignorance makes sense

Feb 3, 2026, 7:11 PM | Updated: 7:15 pm

Holocaust Remembrance Day was a few days ago. That might be a shock to one out of five American students between the ages of 18 and 29 because, well, they never heard of the Holocaust. They don’t think it actually happened. They think it’s a myth — 20% of 18 to 29 year olds, that’s a survey for American youth.

Now, how are we doing in the state of Washington?

Well, let’s see. We spend $20,000 plus per student.

Are we educating them when it comes to something like the Holocaust?

Thirty-four percent of them couldn’t name one concentration camp. Twelve percent think, and I use the word lightly, think that Jews caused the Holocaust, and more than half don’t know that 6 million Jews were killed.

You know what they say about history? Those who don’t learn from history are doomed to repeat it. Well, that’s sad.

Only 13% of eighth graders have a proficient knowledge of U.S. history. That’s a significant drop from previous years. Whoosh.

When it comes to world history, the numbers are so small they hardly ever measure them. But the ignorance is on full display for all of us to see.

Billy Eilish wears red button in support of ending the war between Israel and Hamas

Grammy winner, Billy Eilish, whose very politically active parents home-schooled her, so maybe that is her excuse.

Let me help the very talented young musician. Two years ago, she had a red button on her lapel in support of ending the war between Israel and Hamas. Seven other celebrities had the same button on.

Here’s a question for you, Billy: would you wear that button — it is the color red, symbolizing the blood — if you knew who shed the blood? Whose blood was it? You might think twice before you walked the red carpet.

The story behind the blood on that red button

It was October 12, 2000. Two Jewish men, one 38 years old, one 28 years old. Father, husband, one was a waiter, one was a construction worker.

Yosef was described as quiet, hard-working, and deeply family-oriented. They were not on duty. The day they decided to help out fellow recruits.

Vadim was 28, an immigrant from Russia, who wanted to build a new life in Israel. He wanted to start a small business, something involving computers. He was described as gentle and optimistic.

The two men headed out, again, not on duty. Vadim was driving, and he was unfamiliar with the roads in the West Bank, and he made a wrong turn.

The two men ended up being taken in by Palestinian police for questioning. They didn’t do anything to lock the door, and word quickly spread that Israeli soldiers were being kept by the police.

A mob formed — Billy.

The police did not hold them back — Billy.

The mob entered the police station — Billy.

They seized the men, and now my Grammy Award-winning person, here’s where the blood comes from.

The two men were stabbed continuously

The two men were stabbed continuously in the back with a knife and into their shoulders, as well. Their stomachs, using the same knife was used to slice them open, to open their abdomen and their intestines, while one of the man was one of the men was being disemboweled, the other was having his eyes gouged out — Billy.

And the mob repeated the same act, the unspeakable cruelty on the other man, unfortunately for them, Billy, they were both still alive at the time.

The blood was on the hands of all, but the most famous was a murderer, a 20-year-old man by the name of Salah.

Salah went to the windows to show the crowd below what they had done. His hands dripping, still warm from the blood of their intestines. He was up in the window, and the bloodthirsty crowd cheered for more. They were two stories below.

The window was open, and both men, still breathing, were dropped from the window, thrown down onto their heads. I’m sure that killed them mercifully. And then the crowd decided, Billy, that they would finish them off.

They beat them, they kicked them, they crushed them, they broke their bones and their skulls. There was no sympathy shown, and that’s where the blood came from, that’s on that little button you had on.

When it was all over, the only things left were the men who were thrown from the window, and the only way they could tell who they were was by looking at their fingerprints and their dental records.

Would celebrities still have worn the button if they knew what it symbolized?

With seven celebrities from the music industry, not knowing much about world history, would they have thought twice before putting that button on if they knew that the red symbolized the blood of two innocent men who just happened to make a wrong turn?

Would you also be okay knowing that the blood came from the empty eye sockets and the open abdomens? Would you still have worn it? I assume it’s ignorance and not heartlessness.

Perhaps these public figures that have limited knowledge of history could do themselves and the rest of us all a giant favor and just shut the hell up and sing your songs out of respect for the victims that have been murdered that you know absolutely nothing about.
