‘It’s like Kid Rock at halftime’: Jake criticizes Patty Murray for skipping State of the Union, having her own speech

Feb 24, 2026, 5:01 PM

Several Washington lawmakers, including Senator Patty Murray, are planning to skip U.S. President Donald Trump’s State of the Union speech at 6 p.m. Tuesday. Murray went so far as to deliver her own speech to Washingtonians.

Jake Skorheim and Spike O’Neill, co-hosts of “The Jake and Spike Show” on KIRO Newsradio, compared Murray’s stunt to Turning Point USA hosting its own Super Bowl halftime show with Kid Rock in protest of Bad Bunny.

“Isn’t Kid Rock gonna play?” Spike joked.

“It’s like Kid Rock at the halftime show,” Jake replied.

“It’s very, very similar,” Spike said.

Washington Representatives Pramila Jayapal and Emily Randall have also decided not to attend the State of the Union, according to The Seattle Times.

Spike noted quite a few Democrats are bringing survivors of Jeffrey Epstein as their guests to the State of the Union.

“A lot of Democrats are bringing Epstein survivors as a statement piece, if you will, as a prop, call it what it is, to the State of the Union,” he said. “That’s how they’re exercising their First Amendment free speech rights to use this opportunity.”

As for Murray skipping the address altogether, Spike doesn’t see an issue.

“I think it’s a fine use of her political platform to make a statement that she disagrees with this administration,” he said.

However, Jake saw it differently.

“I think she’s missing an opportunity,” he said. “She should have come on this show and defended why she’s not doing her job.”
