‘It’s interesting to hear people talk about Sam Darnold’: Gee gives inside scoop as fans flood Bay Area

Feb 4, 2026, 12:44 PM

While covering the Super Bowl in the Bay Area, KIRO host Gee Scott has noticed one name buzzing — Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold.

“It is so interesting to hear people talk about Sam Darnold right now,” Gee said on “The Gee and Ursula Show” on KIRO Newsradio.

“What are they saying?” KIRO host Ursula Reutin asked.

“So many of them are saying, ‘Oh, I was kind of wrong about Sam Darnold. I didn’t know that he’d be this way, and he was in the NFC Championship, and we’ve never seen him play that way before,” Gee shared. “And years previous, he was doing this, and I just didn’t kind of see, but he’s one of the biggest reasons why the Seattle Seahawks are here.

“Now, just so everybody knows, I’m in my element. But when I hear people talk about Sam Darnold, it reminds me of real life,” he continued. “Like so many people are judged on the past, and it follows them forever. Like, ‘Hey, I don’t like that person.’ Or, ‘That person wasn’t very smart.’ Well, you don’t even know that person 15 years later. My point is, hearing people talk about Sam Darnold — Sam Darnold had to actually win, and now people are jumping on the wagon. So people don’t jump on your bandwagon until you win.”

Ursula pushed back, “Well, that’s human nature. I mean, I think, if you’re to be fair, at the beginning of the season, you had some questions about Sam Darnold and the entire team.”

To which Gee responded, “I agree. Yes, you’re right, and about the entire team. But the reason why I’m bringing this up, I’m bringing this up for all of us. Whatever situation you are in right now, don’t think your future equals your past. You can change your future right now.”

Super Bowl crowd already building in the Bay Area

Ursula then asked what the most surprising thing has been so far.

“The amount of Patriots and Seahawks fans that are already here,” Gee replied.

He noted there are more Seahawks fans so far, which he attributed to Seattle being a West Coast team.

“It’s one thing to afford the Super Bowl. It’s another thing to be here on Monday. You’re here on Monday? Tuesday? Wednesday? Thursday?” Gee said.

“But for people, the Super Bowl is their Super Bowl,” Ursula responded. “I mean, this is the highlight of their entire life.”

Gee also interviewed several players, such as wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba, defensive tackle Jarran Reed, defensive back Riq Woolen, and wide receiver Jake Bobo; watch those conversations in the video above.

Listen to Gee and Ursula on “The Gee and Ursula Show” weekday mornings from 9 am to 12 pm on KIRO Newsradio.

We moved primaries from September to August in 2008 to give election officials more time to process mail-in ballots. That made logistical sense. For actually getting people to vote, it's a flop.
