‘This should be a full-stop conversation’: Gee and Ursula condemn Trump’s remarks about Los Angeles, San Diego

Gee Scott and Ursula Reutin criticized President Donald Trump’s remarks about Iran taking out Los Angeles and San Diego, rejecting the idea that his comments should be dismissed as typical political rhetoric.

During “The Gee and Ursula Show” on KIRO Newsradio, the co-hosts questioned both the president’s language and the willingness of his supporters to defend it.

“This should be a full-stop conversation,” Gee said. “This should be the number one news in the country.”

The Associated Press reported that Trump said, “They can take out a city. Let ’em take out Los Angeles, let ’em take out San Diego. This is a very small price to pay.” The White House disputed the interpretation that he was calling for attacks, saying he was explaining how his actions were preventing them.

Ursula told listeners the White House’s explanation was that the cities would have been in danger if Iran had been allowed to develop nuclear weapons. After playing the remarks again, she asked Gee for his reaction.

Gee questions political loyalty after Trump’s comments

Gee said he was exhausted by what he described as people allowing political allegiance to guide their responses to the president.

“There’s Republicans in San Diego and in L.A.,” he said. “There’s conservatives, there’s MAGA, there’s Trump supporters in L.A. and San Diego. Does he forget about them?”

Gee argued that Trump’s relationship with supporters is conditional and that Republicans risk political retaliation when they challenge him. He also addressed listeners who tell him they do not always agree with his opinions, asking whether they agreed with the president’s comments.

“All right, you agree with this? Because maybe you don’t agree with me, but on topics like this, this should be a full-stop conversation,” Gee said.

He said the remarks deserved sustained attention rather than another round of explanations that Trump did not mean what critics heard.

“We should be doing almost a three-hour show on the fact that the president of the United States said what he said about two cities in America,” Gee said.

His frustration extended to people who use their platforms to defend Trump but, in Gee’s view, will not draw a line.

“They will never come out and say full stop. This is wrong,” Gee said.

Gee described his broader concern as political loyalty taking precedence over independent judgment.

“I’m just saying my point today is that all I can come up with is when politics leads you and your family and your decisions,” Gee said. “This is a disease that feels incurable in America.”

Ursula calls rhetoric dangerous and beneath the presidency

Ursula agreed that the comments should not be treated as routine.

“You’re calling it a disease. I’m calling it pure insanity,” Ursula said. “It is dangerous, and it is especially appalling coming from the president of the United States.”

She said the show had deliberately shifted toward local news and more positive subjects over the previous six months, rather than responding to every presidential controversy.

“We have largely stopped chasing the president’s daily nonsense because it’s exhausting,” Ursula said. “It is endless, and not every single outrageous statement deserves light.”

But she argued these comments required attention. She questioned whether any other president in modern American history could talk about an enemy taking out American cities and have the response dismissed as simply how he speaks.

Ursula also rejected the idea that objections to those remarks amounted to “Trump derangement syndrome.”

“The word deranged is entirely appropriate, but that’s when we’re describing the occupant of the White House talking this way about millions of Americans,” she said.

Ursula called on voters to respond in the upcoming midterm elections.

“This kind of rhetoric not only is beneath the office; I mean it has to end, and our first chance to send that message comes in the midterm elections this November,” Ursula said. “I cannot emphasize that strongly enough.”
