Gee backs millionaire tax: ‘Only way to fix the system is if people at the top are impacted’

Jan 14, 2026, 5:00 AM | Updated: 4:07 pm

While a plan to tax millionaires in Washington has received support from many Democratic leaders and Washington Governor Bob Ferguson, many residents have pushed back on the idea, opening the door for the age-old income tax debate.

Gee Scott and Ursula Reutin, co-hosts of “The Gee and Ursula Show” on KIRO Newsradio, both expressed their approval of a state income tax, although they noted it would require assurance other state taxes would not rise in the future.

“I would be OK with a state income tax if there could be a way to guarantee that other taxes won’t go up,” Ursula said. “I’m not OK with property taxes going up, and up, not because I can’t afford it, but I see a lot of people who can no longer afford it.”

Gee also agreed with a state income tax, but added that he believed the only way a broken system can be fixed is if the people in the highest tax bracket begin to feel the impacts of said flawed system.

“The only way to fix the system is if the people at the top are impacted,” Gee said. “The people at the top are making money, so the system will never change. It will continue to be broken. I think the income tax would be more of a fairer system in Washington, but one thing I am learning about the game is this system will keep going because it’s the rich people who have a lot, they control the system, and they want us to argue and fight about it.”
