Ex-FBI agent goes to YouTube to combat J.Edgar Hoover gay portrayal in film

Nov 30, 2011, 8:43 AM | Updated: Oct 14, 2024, 4:07 pm

Ex-FBI agent Gregg Schwarz took his message to YouTube, saying there was no evidence J. Edgar Hoover had a homosexual relationship with his aide Clyde Tolson, as depicted in the new Clint Eastwood film “J. Edgar.”

Schwarz is not alone in what he is saying. According to The Washington Post, other FBI agents and historians agree there is not evidence that Hoover was gay.

“I don’t know anyone who’s not extremely upset,” Bill Branon, a former agent and chairman of the J. Edgar Hoover Foundation, told The Washington Post. “It’s not only because of our admiration for him. It’s the fact it’s just not true. If it were true, it wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world. But don’t do that to the poor guy when he’s dead and gone.”
