Headed to Portland? Here Are the City’s Best Restaurants!

While Tom and Thierry whoop it up at Taste Washington, I’ll be tasting Portland after receiving some recommendations from Eric Tanaka (A.K.A. “ET”), executive chef and partner at Tom Douglas Restaurants. As promised, here is a recap of the places he mentions in our interview along with the links to peruse the menus when you have a free moment.
AND! Just in case you haven’t seen this, and you’re curious what ET was referring to re: the show Portlandia, here’s a taste.
ET’s recommendations:
Natural Selection: ET’s vegetarian pick with a $40 prix fixe menu
Aviary: Tanaka describes this as more “refined”, delicious and subtle!
Toro Bravo: Delicious take on Spanish tapas.
Tasty n Sons: ET says it’s flavor packed and I whole heartedly agree! It’s my favorite brunch… with a hangover or otherwise.
Apizza Scholls: Tanaka says he always enjoys this pizza with old school NY techniques and fun toppings. And that’s saying a lot from the guy who helped build the famous pizzas at Serious Pie!
Olympic Provisions: Great meat things! Charcuterie and rotisserie meats abound.

Vitaly Paley’s new restaurant (if I can figure out the name of the place I’ll let ya know!)
The Bent Brick: ET may have yet to dine here, but I’ve actually been. Fantastic food. Don’t be fooled by the seemingly simple menu- the items are much more complex when they arrive in front of you.
