Kid says he has to mow school’s lawn for falling asleep in class

A Portland sixth-grader was reportedly forced to mow the school lawn as a punishment for his ADD-triggered behavior.

Kyron Sloan, 11, fell asleep in class, so the counselor decided mowing the lawn would be good punishment. His mom argues no one ever asked her about a punishment.
“He’s 11 years old — a child with a disability — you cannot punish a child for having a disability,” Kristi Sloan-Ceron told KATU. She’s asking that whoever is responsible no longer be allowed to teach.
The kid says he does everything he can to keep himself awake and that now he’s just being bullied. He doesn’t want to go back to Alice Ott Middle School.
The school district says it’s investigating and won’t comment.
