New Hampshire update: Stalking the candidates

The eyes of the nation have turned to New Hampshire where the first presidential primary takes place. The Ross and Burbank Show have been following the candidates all weekend and called into Seattle’s Morning News with an update Monday.

Burbank reports the weather has been mild.

“It’s been 50 degrees and sunny here,” said Burbank.

Dave Ross says he, Burbank, and producer Andrew have been all over the state “stalking the candidates.”

“We have now managed to get within inches of every one of them, except for Rick Perry who has been laying low.”

Burbank’s highlight so far was meeting Mitt Romney.

“I swooned,” said Luke. “It was like my mom meeting Paul McCartney when she was a teenage girl when I talked to Mitt Romney yesterday.”

Burbank says he’s been surprised at how different that candidates come across in person, and Dave Ross agrees.

“You find yourself understanding their points of view,” said Ross. “Rick Santorum for example is probably one of the guys considered one of the most extreme right wing candidates of the campaign, but even he’s got to sit down and justify his views to people and when you hear him do that in a one-on-one setting…he does it with sincerity, he doesn’t sound like a crazy person.”

Burbank says while they’re in New Hampshire they plan to gather all the information they can.

“I’ve been just walking up to people, as has Dave, anywhere we saw someone who was doing anything interesting we just pulled out our little tape recorder and started talking to them,” said Burbank. “We’ve got all kinds of tape we’ve been collecting. One of our goals being in broadcasting was to tell the story of what goes on here, but to tell it in a way that’s interesting to people who may or may not be obsessed with politics.”
