Walking through the door of the Skeptical Chymist Irish Pub in Scottsdale, Arizona was like walking through a wormhole into a bar in Seattle. Every single person inside was wearing blue and green Seahawks gear. And they aren’t all visitors in town for the Super Bowl. Most of these fans live in Arizona, and they come here to watch every game during football season.

Among them, Elizabeth Fleming. She moved to Scottsdale from Seattle three years ago. She even brings her precocious 12-year-old son, Caiden.

Everyone I met at the Skeptical Chymist has some kind of Washington connection. It’s packed with snowbirds and Puget Sound natives who moved to Arizona. Even server Poppy Dunton has a connection: her mom used to be a teacher in Washington.

The bar has become a place where Seattle misfits can bond.

If you’re coming to Phoenix, but you can’t afford an $8,000 Super Bowl ticket, this is the place to watch the game on Sunday.
