Please take a moment to read this email, from R&D listener Carla in Everett:
Hello Ron and Don. I have a request. My dear friend Kim Lallier lost her 20 year old son in Afganistan on June 18th.
Kim and I met when they lived in Seattle. They now live in Spokane. Gov. Gregoire is having the flags in our beautiful state fly at half staff on Monday in Jarrod’s honor. I was wondering if you could ask your listeners to take a photo of a flag at half staff wherever they are and send it to you so you could forward it to the Lalliers. I plan to do this.
I spoke to Kim, and she would find comfort in this gesture. Then I thought it would be great if she recieved a LOT of photos. That is when I thought of The Ron and Don Nation. What a wonderful suprise for two grieving parents and the two surviving siblings. Thank you for your consideration.

After hearing from Carla, we wanted to find out more about Jarrod’s story. From The Spokesman Review:
Spc. Jarrod Lallier always knew he wanted to serve his country.
“He said that since he was little boy,†said his mother, Kim Lallier. “As his mom, I always tried talking him out of it. As he grew up, we knew it was even a stronger conviction.”
Lallier, a graduate of Mead Senior High School, was killed in Afghanistan when men in Afghan police uniforms turned their weapons on his unit, according to the Department of Defense.
He was 20 years old.
Kim Lallier said her son, who came from a family with military ties, loved soccer, his friends, fishing, camping and animals.
“Most of all, he was just a people person,†she said. “He’d make a ton of friends no matter where he went. He was just a very likeable person, easygoing. He made friends really easy.”
Lallier was due to return from Afghanistan in early September. He would have turned 21 on July 3.
Attention R&D Nation! The Lallier family in Spokane is hurting from an unimaginable loss. They could use your help to feel a little love from their community, and know that their son’s incredible sacrifice is not going unnoticed.
HOW TO PARTICIPATE:
Please take a photo of your American flag, or a flag in your community, flying at half staff on Monday, July 2nd. Submit your photo by e-mailing feedback@mynorthwest.com
Remember to include your name and where the flag photo was taken. Consider adding a personal note for the Lallier family.
We will collect these photos and share them online, as well as present them in an album for Jarrod’s mom.
Our listeners have the biggest hearts in the country, and this is our chance to share the love. THANK YOU.
