Ross takes on Death Cab in battle for best Ichiro song

Ichiro has inspired the city of
Seattle for over a decade, so it’s little surprise he’s
also inspired a slew of songs in his honor.
Among the offerings, a never released ditty from Death For
Cutie’s Ben Gibbard, a longtime friend of the Ross and
Burbank show. He released it Monday soon after the trade
was announced.
You’d figure that would be the fan favorite, especially
for hipsters like Luke. It’s getting plenty of love from
the likes of Rolling Stone Magazine. But Luke, an
aficionado of Indy music and all
things hipster, has a soft spot in his heart (and his ear)
for an operetta of sorts.
Like one of those Mariners throwback uniforms, Dave dug
out his classical composition penned as
the city lamented the loss of Alex Rodriguez. Forget
Figaro. Dave definitely goes one better with “Ichiro,
Ichiro, Ichiro.” It’s even enshrined in the Baseball Hall
of Fame. Well, somewhere deep in the archives of the Hall
of Fame.
And after hearing the Ross classic, it’s also forever
enshrined at the desk of one loyal listener.
“I just tuned in as Dave was introducing his Ichiro song.
Let him know he is responsible for a new keyboard, as I’ve
just spit coffee all over it,” writes longtime listener
Luke Spooks in one of today’s “Magic Messages”.
