Five guys on Sea-Doos have a wild goal: to traverse the
globe. When they crossed the Bering Strait, they were
detained by a group of guards.

The group was cold and in need of fuel. It was
around midnight, and a wave of fog moved in shortly before
the group reached the shore. They emerged from the mist to
see surprised guards, Steven
Moll told 97.3 KIRO
FM’s Ross and Burbank
.

The group’s stop was not a regular port-of-call. The group
believed they had all of the proper documentation to get
into the country at the time. In Russia, you need an
invitation, along with a visa and passport, and
previous contact with the consulate.

Eventually, the misunderstanding
will probably make for good television. The group is
filming a reality show, the first season of which took
the group on the Sea-Doos out of the Ballard Locks and up
to their homes in Nome, Alaska. The ultimate goal is
to cross the globe and to document it for the show
“Dangerous Waters.”

“We wanted to get to Taiwan, but would have accepted the
southern tip of Japan,” Moll said.

Instead, because they were turned around after crossing
the Bering Strait, they’ll be going in the other
direction over the top of North America, to Greenland and
Iceland, and eventually, Europe.

To prepare, they pay close attention to weather
conditions.
“We’re also talking to local people, what they think of
the wind and the waves.”

Many locals take them in when they arrive at stops to fuel
up or recharge for the next days’ travel. They’re hoping
for the same hospitality as they meet the native people in
the
most northern parts of Canada for the first time.

“Dangerous Waters” isn’t on television in the United
States yet, but Luke is ready for it. He thinks it could
prove to be even more thrilling than another one of his
favorites, “Ice Road Truckers.”
