Bad kids get coal in their stockings. Well-behaved adults are apparently getting marijuana.

A “bud tender” at the Pot Shop, in Seattle’s Fremont neighborhood, says the shop’s been really busy with holiday shoppers.

“We’ve definitely done better sales in the past two days than since we’ve been open,” Bob McGinn says. “Sales are definitely going up. There are a lot of people coming in with their families. Even the younger crowd are bringing their parents in. People are giving a lot of gifts.”

Bob talks about one of the season’s most popular gifts.

“We actually have a super-joint that’s 15 grams, $80,” he says. “It’s a huge joint, it’s comically large. I would say it’s about 10 inches long and at the end it’s about the size of a quarter. It’s almost like a gag gift. People are still coming back for it, they said it was great, so they came back to get another one.”

If you’re looking for that perfect stocking stuffer, consider edibles.

“We have a stocking stuffing bundle,” McGinn says. “And then Zoots, they do a holiday assortment. You get a little bit of brownies, a little bit of these flavor enhancing liquids that you can put into drinks and then little heart candies. It comes in a little holiday packaging.”

A classic Christmas scene is a family sitting around a roaring fire sipping eggnog spiked with booze. Bob says a lot of adult children are buying pot for their parents. So why not substitute the booze for a bong?

“It’s great too because they bring their parents in and they’re like, ‘You know, I never thought I’d see the day,'” McGinn says. “They’re not afraid of this anymore. It’s legal, people are treating it like alcohol.”

Around the holidays I recall an episode of The Simpsons, when a procrastinating Homer was forced to shop for his family’s Christmas gifts at The Kwik-E-Mart. If you’re in a similar position, consider a recreational marijuana store.
