One hundred and forty characters proved too brief for some to get the message on the passing of North Korean leader Kim Jong Il.

When the news broke, some twitter users apparently confused Kim Jong Il with rapper Lil’ Kim.

“There were a decent number of people on twitter who thought that Lil’ Kim the rapper had died,” said 97.3 KIRO FM host Luke Burbank. “Because it was trending on twitter, because it was Kim Jong Il, they maybe thought it was a typo involving Lil’ Kim.”

Buzzfeed posted updates from several people on twitter that made the mistake.

@KwameKilpatrick Wait, Lil Kim died last night???

@DJMayorga Literally just gasped-did Lil Kim just die?! Is this true?

“This is a sad comment on the age we live in,” said Burbank.

For those that made the error, Burbank offered to shut down their twitter accounts.

“All of you should officially deactivate your twitter account right now and sit down with a copy of The New York Times please.”
