Why is Dave so unhappy? Washington isn’t happy enough

Mar 6, 2012, 2:54 PM | Updated: Oct 14, 2024, 10:45 am

HAPPY PLACE RKHe usually spends most of his time in his own little happy place, but Dave Ross is saddened by Washington’s noted absence from a list of the happiest states in the nation.

“The reason I moved here in 1978 was that Time magazine cover with Dixie Lee Ray and Mount Rainier in the background and I just wanted to be in a state that was governed by her with a mountain like that because it seemed so happy to me,” Dave told co-host Luke Burbank.

Listen to Dave is mad because we aren’t happier

But apparently we aren’t so happy after all. A new Wall Street Journal survey ranks Hawaii, North Dakota, Minnesota, Utah and Alaska as the happiest states, based on criteria including well being, life expectancy, education, and median household income.

“Washington is nowhere to be found,” Dave laments.

Luke in contrast could care less.

“There are no happiest states or happiest cities or fittest cities there are no studies about these things that are in any way scientific,” he says.

At least we didn’t make it on the list of most miserable states, either. West Virginia earned that dubious honor.

But Dave isn’t giving up hope he can get back to his happy place.

“Next time the pollsters call and ask if you’re happy, just say yes because it’ll make me happy,” Dave says. “And it helps real estate prices!”
