$156 Million Dollars for Bike Lanes Over Bus Lanes?!
Seattle’s RapidRide J Line project is costing $156 million, but critics say it may not improve traffic at all. The project will rebuild Eastlake Avenue, but only part of the route includes dedicated bus lanes. Meanwhile, parking is being permanently removed, and much of the corridor will remain mixed traffic.
Supporters say it’s about long-term transit and bike infrastructure. Critics argue it’s disrupting businesses, worsening congestion, and prioritizing future riders over current ones.
