3 Months After Katie Wilson's Promise, 12th and Jackson Is Worse
Three months ago, Mayor Katie Wilson promised the people of North Beacon Hill and Little Saigon that the city would no longer tolerate open-air drug dealing, public disorder, and stolen goods at 12th and Jackson. She put it in writing. She promised police, $1.1 million, and consequences.
Charlie Harger went down Monday to see what that promise bought. 12th and Jackson is as bad as he's ever seen it. Rizal Park is overrun. The LEAD diversion program doesn't even report whether participants get housed, get a job, or die. And the parade of one-term mayors making the same promise just got one entry longer.
